Name any country in the world and you can almost say for certain there are Pinoys living there!
For sure, the Filipinos love their native land, but they are willing to make sacrifices as they seek for a better life for them and their family.
And so the Filipinos sail across seas as “seamen” (or sailors), work as nurses in hospitals in America or as caregivers in Canada, serve as domestic helps in Hong Kong or Singapore, toil as contract professionals or laborers in the Middle East, or simply become stay-at-home housewives in Europe.
According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), last year almost 3,000 Filipinos left everyday to work as overseas workers, mainly in the Middle East!
With the weakening of the US dollars, however, overseas workers send less money to their families than before. Some of them feel like not going back abroad, but the prospect for jobs in their home country is almost zero. And even if they can find employment, most likely the pay would just be a fraction of what they could earn overseas.
