OFWs: New breed of heroes
Mabuhay ang mga bagong bayani!Yes, our Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are hailed as the new heroes of this generation because of the millions they send from abroad which keep the Philippine economy afloat.
They work with both blue collared and white collared jobs just to money for their Filipino families back home. They work as seamen across the Pacific seas, nurses in America, caregivers in Canada, domestic helpers in Hong Kong and Singapore, laborers in the Middle East, or simply being stay-at-home housewives in Europe.

According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), almost 3,000 Filipinos leave the Philippines everyday to work as overseas workers, mainly in the Middle East.
Despite the global economic crisis world, OFWs remittances continue to increase. According to a report from Ed F. Limtingco, “the remittances from the OFW grow by a double-digit growth rate for the first time during the year in August 2011 to reach US$ 1.7 billion.”
This is further supported by Juan “Jed” E. Dayang, Jr., a reflective diplomat. He claims that, “The economic contribution of Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs increased the welfare of their families in the Philippines. The remittance flow also (helps) shore up the foreign currency reserves of the country."
With their diligence and resourcefulness being abreast despite the difficulty of working away from their Filipino families at home, with wave our Philippine flagproud of every OFW.
